Choosing business card paper stock

For most of us, business cards are at the forefront of our advertising strategy. When meeting new people, the first thing we do is reach for our business card to give others information about who we are and what we do. Even if the person you are meeting has no potential to be a client of yours, it is a quick and easy way to introduce ourselves. Furthermore, the business card you present will tell others a lot about you and your company. Does your card stand out from other's cards? Is it attractive, with bright colors and contrast? And most of all, what kind of paper stock is it printed on?

Your business card paper stock is actually one of the more important properties to be considered when buying or printing your cards. The most important factor is the thickness. A thin card stock is not likely to impress upon people a sense of solid business ethics and integrity. It conveys a "cheap" image that reflects back on you. The standard thickness for business cards is 14 pt. The type of stock you choose is also important. There are many options to choose from besides plain white. There are colored, transparent, or embossed stocks as well as other media besides paper such as plastic or even metal. So make sure you put some thought into designing your business cards. If you skimp on your first impression, you may never get a second chance.
